The Midwest Classic Movies Series takes movies from the 1910’s to the 1960’s and, on the 3rd Saturday of the month, puts them where they belong – back on the big screen!

October is Halloween month and the M.C.M. likes to celebrate with a Universal Classic Monster Movie. This year we are celebrating the 70th Anniversary of Creature From the Black Lagoon!

During a scientific expodition in the Amazon, an ancient fossil of an unknown creature’s hand is found. Unfortunately for one of the team, there’s an ancestor who’s not happy they are there and kills them. Back in America, a group of scientists, led by Dr. David Reed (Richard Carlson), are eager to return and find more of the fossilized creature. Getting their team together they head back and sale up the Amazon river and theorize that it might have washed down from a near by lagoon. A lagoon that the native crew members are fearful of and is known as the Black Lagoon.

Once there they set about exploring, looking for more ancient fossils of this prehistoric Gill-Man. Little do they know that there is a very much alive Gill-Man swimming under the dark waters of the lagoon. Especially the female member of the party, Kay Lawrence (Julie Adams) who decides to go for a swim. The fantastic fish-man has love at first sight and swims/stalks Kay underwater. Before the team knows it they’re trapped in the lagoon and getting picked off one by one as the Creature attacks, determined to keep Kay with him. Can modern science defeat prehistoric terror? Find out in this only Universal Classic Monsters Movie Series from the 50’s.
