Frontier Strings – The Prairie Show
Frontier Strings is the Omaha Conservatory’s premiere touring ensemble. It is made up of 34 students from the ages of 8-18. This summer, a group of 17 students will be on the Midwest Theater stage to entertain with all styles of music, from fiddling to pop to musical theater to classical, including stunts and hula-hooping. There’s something for everyone in “The Prairie Show.” Frontier has toured nationally, performing in Los Angeles, Kansas City, and opening for shows like the Haygood’s in Branson. The group is made up of dedicated young musicians who also have a heart for performance and entertainment. Frontier Strings is led by Ruth (Wilson) Meints, native of Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
Omaha Conservatory of Music is a thriving hub for musical education in Nebraska and Iowa, serving over 2,000 students each week. Offering comprehensive individual lessons, group classes, and events covering various instruments, conducting, composition, and theory. The campus buzzes with activity year-round, hosting performances, masterclasses, and collaborative opportunities for the entire community. Their impact extends beyond the campus through community outreach initiatives like String Sprouts, which offers free or low-cost music lessons to children aged 3 to 8, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. With over 900 students currently benefiting from this program, they are expanding their reach within Nebraska and beyond, aiming to launch in other cities across the United States and internationally. Central to their mission are their esteemed Artist-Faculty members, who bring a wealth of expertise and dedication to their educational programs. Through their tireless efforts, they empower individuals of all backgrounds with musical knowledge, fostering a lifelong appreciation for the arts and enriching lives in the Omaha community and beyond.
