Pet Sematary (1989) – 35th Anniversary

This October the Historic Midwest Theater isn’t the only thing that’s haunted! Presenting our Hauntastic Halloween Season! We’re starting the spooky celebrations with a Stephen King Classics Weekend, featuring a couple of killer kids!

Based on the Bestselling Novel from Stephen King, Pet Sematary is a cautionary story that tells us that “sometimes, dead is better”.

When Dr. Louis Creed and his family move to their new home in the country it seems like the ideal place, with the exception of the frequent Simi-trucks that speed down the road between them and neighbor Jud Crandall and a path that leads to a near-by pet sematary. Later at work Louis is confronted by the ghost of a recently deceased patient with a warning of coming doom. While the wife and kids are away the family cat, Church, is run over by one of the trucks on the road. Jud has Louis follow him past the pet sematary to an ancient burial ground with the power to bring the dead back to life.

Louis is creeped out by the resurrected Church but his daughter doesn’t seem to notice. He thinks things will be ok but when tragedy strikes his only thought is about the power of the ancient burial ground. He ignores the warnings of Jud and his ghostly visitor and performs another burial. The only problem is when the dead come back to life, they come back… different.
