Movies Under the Full Moon is feeling the Christmas spirit so we’re changing the Very, Merry Midwest Christmas into A Very, SCARY Midwest Christmas with the 40th anniversary of the cult classic – Silent Night, Deadly Night!
8 year old Billy was warned by his Grandpa that Santa punishes those who are naughty. That night he witnesses his parents get murdered by a maniac in a Santa suit. 10 years later Billy (Robert Brian Wilson) has aged out of the orphanage. Looking for employment he gets a job as a toy store’s Santa. While there he accidentally sees two people having sex in the backroom which triggers flashbacks to the fateful night. Fully triggered, Billy has a psychotic break and becomes a murderous rampage in his Santa suit. Also stars – Linnea Quigley.
Considered a cult classic due to the acting, production value, and novelty of having a killer Santa Claus. It also gained notoriety because of the extreme controversy it caused upon its release. The movie sparked outrage from parents and community groups who tried to ban it but instead made people seek it out to see what all the fuss was about. This notoriety carried over into the VHS rental days, solidifying its cult classic status.
