Some Like It Hot – 65th Anniversary
THIS JULY JUST GOT HOTTER!
Our July Midwest Classic Movie is too HOT to only be shown once. That’s why we’re doing a M.C.M. Weekend Takeover! 1 week early, All weekend long, 4 chances to see Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, & Jack Lemmon in Billy Wilder’s SOME LIKE IT HOT, celebrating its 65th Anniversary!
Joe (Curtis) and Jerry (Lemmon) are two musician who witness a gangland hit. To stay alive they need to get out of Chicago in a hurry. The only out of town gig they can find is an all-girl band headed to Florida. To get the gig they dress up as women and pretend to be Josephine and Daphne so they can hop on the train. The new “ladies” sure enjoy being surrounded by their female band mates, especially Sugar (Monroe), who Joe sets out to woo using the insight he gets as being Josephine. Unfortunately for Jerry the only one interested in wooing him (as Daphne) is millionaire Osgood Fielding the 3rd (Joe E. Brown). Mayhem ensues as the two men try to keep their true identities hidden. Especially when the gangster Spats Colombo (George Raft) and his gang show up in Florida for a meeting with several other crime lords.
Considered the funniest movies of all time (American Film Institute), nominated for 6 Oscars (winning one for Best Costume Design), Winner of 3 Golden Globes (Best Motion Picture-Comedy, Best Actress – Comedy or Musical – Monroe, Best Actor – Comedy or Musical – Lemmon) and on countless Top 10 lists, Some Like It Hot is a true Classic Movie.
