The Sound of Music – 60th Anniversary

The Sound of Music – 60th Anniversary

The Midwest Classic Movie Series takes movies from the 1910’s to the 1960’s that have stood the test of time and are considered to be classic and puts them where they belong – back on the big screen. The Historic Midwest Theater is the perfect setting to watch these films as it transports you back to the era they were released in. Whether you saw them on one of their original runs or only on TV, make your way to a M.C.M. screening on the 3rd Saturday of the Month.

This May Musical will fill the Midwest Theater with the Sound of Music!

How do you solve a problem like Maria? This is what the sisters at the convent are wondering about  their young novice Maria (Juile Andrews). The answer is to send her to the von Trapp family as a governess. Head of the family is widowed naval officer Captain Georg von Trapp (Chistopher Plummer), who runs his seven children like they were his sailors. Maria comes in like a whirlwind and fills their lives with music and fun. She wins over the kids and seems to be winning over Georg also, but unfortunately they live in 1930’s Austria and the threat of a Nazi occupation is looming.

A family favorite for generations with songs that will have you singing for days. Winner of 5 Academy Awards including Best Picture.
