Stagecoach – 85th Anniversary

The Midwest Classic Movies Series takes movies from the 1910’s to the 1960’s and, on the 3rd Saturday of the month, puts them where they belong – back on the big screen!

September’s M.C.M. is Stagecoach – 85th Anniversary!

John Ford’s enduring classic is about a group of strangers who find themselves thrust together on a stagecoach journey through the American Wild West. A powerful story of nine strange people with mysterious pasts and motivations, including prisoner, Ringo Kid (John Wayne, in a star making role). To make matters worse, their route takes them through Apache territory. Whose leader, Geronimo, is on the attack for anyone who enters.

This is where it all started. John Ford’s smash hit and lasting masterpiece Stagecoach revolutionized the western, elevating it from B movie to the A-List and establishing the genre as we know it today. Featuring outstanding performances from Hollywood stalwart Clair Trevor (M.C.M. return actress from Key Largo), John Carradine (House of Dracula), Thomas Mitchell (M.C.M. return actor Gone With the Wind), who won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role. This movie also marks John Wayne’s first starring role for John Ford and Ford’s first trip to Monument Valley. Superbly shot and tightly edited, Stagecoach is Hollywood storytelling at its finest.
